Our Sailors come from all over Cumbria. Whether part of a disability group, or individuals interested in experiencing sailing, we offer around 200 local individuals with disabilities the opportunity to come sailing each year.
The groups who currently come sailing are: Whinfell School (Kendal); Day service groups from Kendal, Wigton and Penrith, The Oaklea Trust, Right2Work, Vision Support (Barrow), Underley Garden, The Vital Group (connected with South Lakes Sight Advice), Beaumont College (South Lakes and Carlisle), 23 Hart Street (Ulverston), Huntley Avenue (Penrith), Sandside Lodge (Ulverston).
Individual sailors come to sail with us as well and make use of our accessible facilities and specially chosen/adapted boats. We have a wheelchair accessible floating pontoon, a hoist for those who need it and two of our boats have the option of electrically assisted controls.
All sessions are carefully planned in advance and led by a qualified leader, ably assisted by a band of experienced and trained volunteers.
We invite group leaders or individuals interested in sailing with us to get in touch. We will make every effort to arrange a taster session for you, subject to availability, where you can experience the joy of sailing on Windermere.
